'Your Highness': The Reviews Are In!

Critics are divided over Danny McBride and James Franco's epic stoner comedy.By Eric Ditzian

The critics don't know quite what to do with "Your Highness." Some have tagged it a worthy successor to the stoner comedy legacy, one that reaches back to swords-and-sandals epics but is still very much in keeping with contemporary comedic traditions. Far more critics, though, argue that the jokes fall flat, the story is kind of a mess, and the performances — especially considering the presence of two recent Oscar nominees in Natalie Portman and James Franco — are nothing short of puzzling.
Will you agree? Read on for a deep dive into some "Your Highness" reviews and decide for yourself.

The Story
"Danny McBride and Ben Best's script for 'Your Highness' has its moments. The whole affair might be described as an amped-up version of 'The Odyssey' for 'Star Wars' fanboys and High Times subscribers. The story follows a king's two very different sons: Fabious (James Franco) is the stereotypical dashing prince with a resplendent mullet and a yen for noble, death-defying quests, while Thadeous (McBride) is a chubby, lazy ne'er-do-well. Saddled with an inferiority complex, the latter prefers smoking the funny stuff and chasing sheep to slaying dragons. But when Fabious' bride-to-be, Belladonna (Zooey Deschanel), is kidnapped by the evil, gerbil-toothed wizard Leezar (Justin Theroux), the king orders Thadeous to help his brother retrieve the damsel in distress." — Stephanie Merry, The Washington Post
The Laughs
"Not every joke lands in the movie, but that's okay. It's the sort of film that is willing to try anything along the way, and it demonstrates both an affection for the genre as well as a deconstructionist's eye for how to tear it down from the inside. There are so many little touches in the film that appealed to me, from the 'Ghostbusters'-looking visual effects to the straight-faced epic second unit work to the monsters that are state-of-the-art while also managing to be both ridiculous and profane." — Drew McWeeny, HitFix
The Performances
"McBride has written a genuinely funny script, but he can't help overplaying each crudely adolescent punchline. And as an actor, his instincts are equally broad. It's as if a chemically altered college kid watched a bunch of Judd Apatow movies, and then decided to remake 'The Princess Bride.' The overall effect gets tiresome, but [director David Gordon] Green has wisely instructed McBride's co-stars to approach the proceedings with complete seriousness. While the majority of the cast handles this task easily (only Deschanel seems lost), Franco truly saves the day. His hilarious deadpan in the midst of utter insanity turns a bawdy goof into a most welcome lark indeed." — Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News
The Comparisons
"The most painful movie so far in a year that's already scraping the bottom of the barrel, 'Your Highness' is a tedious, dung-colored misfire that sullies the genre of 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' and 'The Princess Bride.' Taken in small doses, in movies such as 'Due Date' and 'Tropic Thunder,' McBride can be hilarious, and he played well with Franco in Green's 'Pineapple Express,' comedy gold next to this. As a lead, he's unbearable, a charmless lout who thinks being gross is the same thing as being funny. 'Your Highness' is thus potty-mouthed, peepee-obsessed, and devoid of such comedy basics as timing or punch lines." — Ty Burr, Boston Globe
The Final Word
"In the absurdly bloody hackings and thwackings, director David Gordon Green (who worked with both leads in 'Pineapple Express') more or less hits his marks and even works up some suspense — unusual in this sort of broad comedy. At bottom, he and McBride respect the genre even as they travesty it. ... 'Your Highness' delivers on its title: a royal high." — David Edelstein, New York

Ke$ha Enlists James Van Der Beek For 'Blow' Video

Singer and former 'Dawson's Creek' star battle it out in her new music video.By Jocelyn Vena

Ke$ha in her video for "Blow"

Photo: RCA

Ke$ha's new music video for her song "Blow" opens with this disclaimer: "No mythological creatures were harmed in the making of this video."
Ke$ha isn't referring to "Dawson's Creek" star James Van Der Beek, who makes a cameo in the video, which was directed by Chris Marrs Piliero. She's referring to the champagne-swilling, hard-partying unicorns that also make an appearance in the video, which takes place at a society party.

Looking glossy and glam in her one-shoulder dress, she tells two unicorns, "I grabbed the bear by the throat, looked him right in the eyes and said, 'Bear you have until the count of zero to put some pants on and apologize to the president. And that's the story of how I was elected to the parliament of Uzbekistan."
She then giggles as she looks into the camera, telling viewers to "dance." Soon, she locks eyes with Van Der Beek. Ke$ha and Van Der Beek exchange glances as they make their way through the party. Scenes of their longing (and unicorns dancing with one another) are edited with scenes of Ke$ha, in a bodysuit, mugging for the camera, singing the song and kissing more unicorns.
Van Der Beek begins stripping off his suit jacket and dances his way towards the singer, who then pulls off her bra from under her gown. He follows suit, leaving viewers laughing and Ke$ha understandably perplexed about why he wears a bra under his dress shirt.
"Well, well, well ... if it isn't James Van Der Douche," she says.
"I don't appreciate you slander-beeking my name," Van Der Beek replies.
After snipping at one another and trading barbs, they begin shooting lasers at one another in a battle sequence, knocking down and killing rainbow-shooting unicorns in the process. In the end, it's revealed that Ke$ha has killed the actor and mounted his head on her wall, laughing off the encounter. The plaque in which his head is displayed reads "James Van Der Dead."

Ke$ha's Get $leazy Tour doesn't wrap until May, but the singer is already making plans for a return engagement, announcing a second leg of the jaunt scheduled for this summer.
Ke$h is adding more than 30 North American dates to the $leazy trek — beginning on July 26 in Harrington, Delaware, and wrapping on September 20 in Phoenix — giving fans even more opportunities to watch her guzzle blood from a human heart! The Game Praises 'Red Nation' Producers Cool & Dre

'Those guys always come through,' the L.A. rapper says about the Miami production duo behind his new single.By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Matt Elias

Game

Photo: MTV News

Dr. Dre isn't the only go-to producer that Los Angeles rapper the Game is keeping in his arsenal. "Red Nation," the lead single from his forthcoming LP, The R.E.D. Album, was produced by Miami-based duo Cool & Dre.

On the set of the Parris-directed "Red Nation" video in downtown L.A., the rapper born Jayceon Taylor had high praise for his Grammy-nominated collaborators.
"Cool & Dre, those are like two of my brothers in hip-hop, man," Game told MTV News. "From 'Hate It or Love It' to 'Red Nation,' 'Big Dreams,' they did a lot of my songs, man. They did [my 2008 track] 'Camera Phone' with Ne-Yo -- those guys always come through."
The aforementioned "Hate It or Love It," from Game's debut album, The Documentary, rose to #1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in 2005 and featured his one-time G-Unit ally -- and now nemesis -- 50 Cent. The Game is keeping friendlier company on "Red Nation," which boasts a chorus performed by Lil Wayne. Cool & Dre already had the Young Money boss in mind when they submitted the track to the Game.
"They called me on the phone and they was like, 'I got a song, it's "Red Nation," and you're going to love it and you put Weezy on the hook and it's going to be crazy, right?!' " Game explained. "That's how they always kind of make the song, and then tell you who they think you should put on it. It's just fun to see it come to life, man."
Keeping with the all-red-everything theme of the tune, the Game debuted a new haircut at the video shoot, a maroon -- or bright red, depending on who you ask -- Mohawk.
"I kinda wanted to do something new for the day," the Game said of the 'do. "I think I'mma stick with it, man. I been getting a lot of rave reviews. The ladies seems to love it. Couple of haters out there. But if I dyed my hair green or kept it black, they'd still be out there waiting to hate on something. But we need the haters, man. Without the haters we can't be who we are."
The Game has been working on The R.E.D. Album at least since 2009, when he told MTV News it would be his most lyrical effort.

30 Seconds To Mars Get Conflicted In 'This Is War' Video

Long-delayed clip is heavy on special effects — and message.By James Montgomery

Jared Leto in the "This is War" video

Photo: EMI

More than a year after they shot it — and nearly nine months since we asked "Whatever Happened to It?" — 30 Seconds to Mars premiered their "This Is War" video on Wednesday (April 6), a clip that's nearly as heavy on special effects as it is on message.
Opening with a quote from H.G. Wells ("If we don't end war, war will end us") and concluding with the computer-generated destruction of tanks, jets and all manner of implements of destruction — or, more specifically, their assemblage into something more, which may or may not be the group's Triad symbol — "War" is actually all about peace, a concept that doesn't seem to gibe with the fact that 30STM are dressed as U.S. soldiers, patrolling the desert in an armored Humvee.
Then again, with its quick-cut montages of various deities and despots, perhaps the video is less about the physical act of war as it is the men who wage it — or, alternately, rail against it. As Jared Leto told MTV News last year, the clip and the song are about "the inevitability of conflict, the blessing of conflict and what we can all learn from it." It seems that, no matter how inhumane the outcome, humankind is practically predestined for war — a fact that roughly 2,000 years of our existence has sadly proven time and time again.
So rather than just come right out and say that war is bad — since, you know, duh — 30 Seconds to Mars try their very best to explore the various facets of the concept: the men and women who lead us to conflict and those who attempt to halt that march. It's a tact they applied to the notion of sex in their "Hurricane" video, only here, they're much subtler (as subtle as a war video with flying tanks can be, of course). But since a complete investigation of humanity's foibles would take a lot longer to complete than the six minutes 30STM have to work with in "This Is War," they basically leave their findings up to the viewer.
When the pile of tanks and battleships at clip's end transforms into a massive pyramid, the meaning isn't readily apparent: There seems to be some sort of extraterrestrial force at play here, or perhaps it's just the overwhelming good nature of humankind willing the event to happen. The image is clearly meant to provoke, but does it also provoke thought? Ultimately, that's up to you. Though, it bears mention that much like conflict itself, thought is a decidedly human condition. And it's also more powerful than any bomb could ever be.
What did you think of 30 Seconds to Mars' new video? Let us know in the comments!

Britney Spears Says She'd Love To Tour With Usher

In her 'Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale' special, she calls the 'OMG' singer 'really hot right now.'By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway

Photo: MTV News & Docs

What do Britney Spears and Usher have in common? Well, they are both global superstars with a back catalogue of tunes that have kept fans dancing for a really long time and they both recently hooked up with will.i.am for tracks on their latest releases (the Black Eyed Peas mastermind worked on the pop vixen's Femme Fatale tune "Big Fat Bass"). And, if Spears has her way, she and the "OMG" singer could be hitting the road together.

When Spears sat down to talk with Sway Calloway for her "Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale" special — airing Sunday (April 3) at 9 p.m. ET on MTV — the singer revealed that Usher is first on her list of artists she'd like to join her on tour.
"Oh, I'm so excited. I'm really excited about going on tour, very," she explained about her forthcoming summer trek, which happens to have a spot open on the bill now that Enrique Iglesias has pulled out of the gig. "I think Usher's really great right now. I think he's really hot right now. That would be cool [to tour with him]."
The North American road trip is expected to kick off June 17 in Sacramento, California, and will run for 26 dates, winding up on August 13 in Toronto. More details will be announced soon.
The "Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale" special is a mixture of behind-the-scenes footage of the singer as she wraps up production on her album, which dropped this week, as well as an inside look at her life and fans. In addition, those who couldn't make Spears' recent nightclub show in Las Vegas will get to see her as she takes the stage in her latest pop incarnation.
Don't miss "Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale," airing Sunday (April 3) at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.

Steve Angello, AN21, Max Vangeli In 'Work Mode' On Size Matters Tour

'[Max and AN21] are going to finish their album, I'm going to do music, and I'm going to sleep!' Angello tells MTV News of no-nonsense tour.By Adam Stewart

Steve Angello

Photo: MTV News

The wave of success Size Records has been riding hit the pavement last month in the form of a huge motor coach touring the country.

For one of the hottest labels in dance music, the multi-city Size Matters Tour formally kicked off back on March 22 at Fontainebleau's LIV nightclub — the first in a series of massive Miami Music Week parties at the swanky venue. But the bus didn't truly hit the road until a week later, when all the Miami madness had subsided. Now that Steve Angello, AN21 and Max Vangeli are done frolicking in the Sunshine State, things are about to get real.
"Oh, they're going to sleep at 8 p.m.," Angello told MTV News. "[And] they're going to wake up at 7 [a.m.]. They're going to run next to the bus, [and] I'm going to keep them in shape!"
"I'm already scared," Vangeli told us in a separate interview.
"I'm really scared!" AN21 added.
It seems as if big brother has instilled the fear of God in the youngsters, who tell us they are as far as 13 or 14 tracks into their highly anticipated album, set for completion this year. Moreover, for the first time in what seems like ages, brothers Steve and AN21 will have a chance to sit down along with Max and finish up a track that the three have been working on for some time.
"We have a track that we've actually been working on with Steve for, like, six months — maybe even longer," AN21 said. "It's so hard to finish it, because he's always on the road or working on other things or we're always on the road, so now we have his undivided attention [for] three weeks, so we're going to finish something."
"It's going to be work mode," Angello said. "[Max and AN21] are going to finish their album, I'm going to do music, and I'm going to sleep!"
There's no denying that Angello means business. But we all know how the Swedes and their pals like to have a good time, so we had to ask the man in charge if there is any chance of the bus turning into a frat house on wheels.
"There's not going to be any alcohol on the bus — whatsoever!" Angello told us with an "I'm not kidding" look.
"I heard from sources that if I bring one beer on the bus, [Steve]'s kicking me off," Vangeli confirmed.
"But I'm allowed to have two beers per week," AN21 added with a smirk. "Maybe three!"
"We have a lot of stuff to do [and] to work on, so it's good," Max added of the rules. "It was the same way in L.A. when we were working in the studio. Everyone was like, 'Oh, guys, come out for the night!' [but] Steve was like, 'You finish your work and then you go!' "
Even though we're certain Angello's no-nonsense rules might be bent just a tad, the packed schedule the gang has ahead of them certainly doesn't leave much wiggle room for anything else. Having already logged miles with stops in Orlando, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Montreal, Toronto and Vegas, the Size Matters Tour hits up the Midwest on its next leg starting Tuesday night (April 5) in Columbus, Ohio, before a West Coast stint that ultimately rounds out the U.S. leg of the tour at Coachella on April 16. And then, of course, comes their slew of European dates, which take them out toward the end of summer.
There's certainly no rest for rest for this hard-hitting crew, but for Angello, it's a much-needed change of pace.
"You know, friends are jumping on [the bus] and coming off," he said. "Different friends are joining me in different cities. It's going to be fun, it's a break of airports. I just need something else!"
Will you check out the Size Matters Tour when it comes to your town? Let us know in the comments below!

Sure, Britney Spears is a chart-topping pop star, but when she's not oozing sex as a Femme Fatale, she loves to sit around and chat about shoes like any other girl.
"I love those," she says about her assistant's studded platform heels in a clip from her MTV special, "Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale," airing this Sunday. "Mine don't have that many studs? They do? I love them!"

Spears opens up to MTV News' Sway Calloway about her home life, which includes cooking and being a mom to her two sons, Jayden and Sean. "I help cook dinner sometimes. I'm not that much of a cook, but I help," she shares. "I try a little bit of everything, but I don't have a special dish."
Spears gets candid during the show's sit-down interview, in which she talks about her upcoming 30th birthday this December. "I think I hoped I would be [doing this]," she said about still being a performer. "I genuinely love what I do. This is what I love to do."

Michael Jackson Estate Rakes In $310 Million To Date

Singer left behind more than $400 million in debt.

Michael Jackson

Photo: Time Life Pictures/DMI/Time Life Pictures/Getty Im

Between album sales, movie profits, licensing arrangements and lucrative deals for Cirque du Soleil shows, the estate of late King of Pop Michael Jackson has raked in more than $300 million since the singer's shocking death in June 2009.
According to TMZ, legal documents released on Thursday reveal that executors of MJ's estate have managed to make a major dent in the more than $400 million in debt that Jackson owed at the time of his death.
The first accounting from the executors shows that they have already spent around $159 million paying back various debts, income taxes and other expenses, which include providing support for the pop star's mother, Katherine Jackson, as well as his three young children.
"Although there remain unresolved creditor claims, pending litigation and additional challenging business, tax and legal issues, and the estate is not yet in a condition to be closed, the executors have made substantial progress in reducing the estate's debt," the documents state, according to a Reuters report. Two of Jackson's longtime confidants, attorney John Branca and music executive John McClain, were named as administrators in a will sign by the pop icon.
In addition to paying to make "substantial improvements" to the Jackson family's Havenhurst estate in Encino, California, the executors also spent an undetermined amount of money on "last illness and funeral and memorial service expenses." Those costs included a $900,000 payment to the Forest Lawn Memorial cemetery where Jackson is buried and $35,000 on expenses described as "costume for memorial."
TMZ reported that not only did the famously cash-strapped Jackson have more than $400 million in debt, but his estate also owed more than $40 million to concert promoter AEG tied to the scuttled This Is It Tour, for which MJ was rehearsing when he died unexpectedly. They've also paid $27.2 million in taxes and $4 million in mortgage payments on Jackson's properties.
Despite the solid sales of the Michael album and millions of units of the singer's back catalog being sold, as well as the box office of the "This Is It" movie and DVD sales, the estate is not nearly out of the woods. TMZ noted that the administrators have received more than 65 creditors' claims, some of which are subject to "extremely high" interest rates, and there are several outstanding lawsuits against the estate in several countries.

Ke$ha Will Guest-Star On Nick's 'Victorious'

'It was really fun to film,' Victoria Justice says of the 'Blow' singer's cameo.

Ke$ha will make an appearance on the hit Nickelodeon series "Victorious." And while the role won't have the pop singer stretching her acting muscle too much — she'll be playing herself — someone else in the Sebert (that's her real last name) clan also is getting in on the action.
Ke$ha will be joined on the episode of the sitcom by her little brother, Louie. The plot will revolve around Tori (Victoria Justice) and her pals trying to win a contest to go to a Ke$ha concert. The gang must piece together golden tickets in order to win their chance to see the "Blow" singer in a private gig.
It seems that 11-year-old Louie provides the winning piece so that they can watch the glittered one perform the aforementioned track.
"It's a private concert, and yeah, I will say that the costumes are awesome and there's definitely lots of glitter," Justice told EW.com, which first reported on the episode. "It was really fun to film. It's the first time on my show that we've had a successful radio artist perform on the show. Ke$ha's kind of edgier, and I think that it's cool to bring that element to the show."
"Victorious" made its big debut last spring. When MTV News caught up with Justice at that time, the teen actress was excited about the interesting plot possibilities the show's premise provides.
"I play a girl named Tori Vega and she's kind of suddenly accepted to this performance arts high school, and from there it's her dealing with all these crazy characters that go there and normal teen problems, like trying to fit in and cute boys," Justice explained. "I also get to perform original music and sing and dance. [That] makes it a lot of fun."
Are you excited to see Ke$ha and her little brother on "Victorious"? Tell us in the comments.

Lady Gaga Teases 'Someone Legendary' Producing 'You And I'

RedOne, Fernando Garibay and DJ White Shadow already confirmed for Born This Way.By Jocelyn Vena

Lady Gaga might have recently tweeted that she's basically wrapped up production on her May album, Born This Way, but the singer shared that there's still work to do on her piano ballad "You and I," which it seems has made the final cut.
"I can't tell you who yet, but someone legendary is producing this next song," Gaga told the crowd at her tour stop in Anaheim, California, on Thursday night, an eyewitness confirms to MTV News. "I'm so excited." The singer added that she "can't wait" for fans to hear the May 23 release.
Whoever the person is she hooks up with, they will be joining previously announced producers RedOne, Fernando Garibay and DJ White Shadow, who all have contributed tracks to the highly anticipated release.
With the album's first single, "Born This Way," still burning up the charts, fans have been hungry to know more about the album's next single, "Judas." With some lyrics already floating around the Internet, it's only a matter of time before Gaga and her creative director, Laurieann Gibson, get to work on the video for the track.
"It's no surprise, I'm sure, to many of you, that Judas is a man of the biblical senses, so expect to see some symbolism in this video," Gaga explained. "You have to look into what is haunting you, and you need to look into forgiving yourself in order to move on. And it's really fun to dance to and sounds like it could be a pop priest record."
Tell us your guesses who the "legendary" producer of "You and I" will be in the comments below!

Ne-Yo Defends Beyonce 'Dis' Statements

'I'm tired of being nice to dumb people. ... Bottom line, Beyonce is my friend,' 'Irreplaceable' songwriter tweets.By Jocelyn Vena

Ne-Yo

When a comment from Ne-Yo hit the Internet in which the songwriter said that he wished he could have kept the Beyoncé hit "Irreplaceable" for himself, some took it as a dis to the star.
"One song that I gave away and didn't want to, but it's actually a good thing that I did, is Beyonce's 'Irreplaceable'. I honestly wrote that song for myself, but that song taught me a very interesting lesson: Many women don't think that differently. ... However, a man singing it comes across a little bit misogynistic, a little bit mean," Ne-Yo, who wrote the song, said in an interview.
When it was implied on Twitter that Ne-Yo was dissing the Sasha Fierce star with his comments, the singer/songwriter defended himself. "Aiight my dude. Send me the link to where I said ANYTHING disrespectful about Beyonce, PLEASE! Dying to hear this," he wrote. "Just heard the audio where I supposedly dissed Beyonce. ARE Y'ALL SERIOUS!?! Did y'all even listen to what I said!?!"
Ne-Yo then continued to tweet his anger toward those who misunderstood what he said. "I said I originally wrote the song for me. That's true, so OF COURSE I didn't want to give it away originally. IT WAS FOR ME," he wrote. "Once I realized how the song comes across if sung by a guy, that's when I decided to give it away. HOW IS THAT DISSING BEYONCE!?! She took the song and made it a smash, NOBODY can deny that ...
"You know what? At first I was apologetic about what the hacker said, now that I've heard the audio myself, not so much," he continued. "Y'all should listen a lil' harder before you start dissin' people. Makes you look real dumb. I'm tired of being nice to dumb people. ... Bottom line, Beyonce is my friend. To HELL with anybody that ain't SMART enough to understand what I truly meant."

Adam Lambert's 'Whole Lotta Love': The Story Behind The Cover

Glam rocker tackled the legendary 1970 Led Zeppelin song for 'American Idol' rock night.By Gil Kaufman

Imagine a freight train speeding toward you at midnight. Or a rockslide barreling down a hill as you try to outrace it. That's the feeling of the ominous, chugging Jimmy Page riff that kicks off Led Zeppelin's 1970 Stonehenge of rock, "Whole Lotta Love." And that's before singer Robert Plant leans into one of the nastiest, ecstatic rock screams this side of the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again."
That's the song Adam Lambert chose to sing on "American Idol" rock night Tuesday (May 5), and, needless to say, it was a challenge that the eyeliner-loving Los Angeles stage veteran was more than up for, hitting a series of high notes and rock screams that would have made Plant proud. It was a risky maneuver that paid off for Lambert, who chose a tune that came in at #75 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2004.

The legendary British rock act recorded the tribute to Chicago blues icon Willie Dixon during their second U.S. tour after working it out in their live show, including it on their 1969 classic album Led Zeppelin II. Like many of the songs Zeppelin performed early in their career, "Love" was a blues standard turned on its head with a heavy dose of crunching psychedelic guitar and thundering drums, courtesy of late drummer John Bonham. The song was based on a 1962 tune by another blues forefather, Muddy Waters, called "You Need Love," which was penned by Dixon.
For Zeppelin's version, Plant customized the lyrics by adding some lyrical quotes from a few other songs Dixon wrote for Howlin' Wolf, "Back Door Man" and "Shake For Me," nailing the tricky vocal in a single take. It was also inspired by 1966's "You Need Loving" from the British rock group the Small Faces, for whom Zeppelin had great affection, but they also did not credit Dixon for his part in writing the original lyrics. The song became Zeppelin's first U.S. single and their only U.S. top 10 hit. Though their manager would not let them release singles in the U.K. because he thought it cannibalized album sales, the song was finally released as the band's only British single in 1997.
Dixon sued Zeppelin over the song in 1985, claiming it borrowed too heavily from his "You Need Love," and Zeppelin reached an agreement with him, with Dixon using the money he received to set up a program that provided musical instruments for schools. A cornerstone of heavy rock, the tune -- which was the theme song for the long-running British countdown show "Top of the Pops" in the 1970s and '80s -- has been covered by dozens of artists over the years, from Tina Turner and Ben Harper to Prince, Slash, Leona Lewis, Train's Pat Monahan, the London Symphony Orchestra and Jane's Addiction.

Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Slash Light Up Super Bowl XLV Halftime Show

The Black Eyed Peas promised a party at the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday (February 6), and the pop supernovas definitely delivered, with a performance teeming with lights, dancers and surprise appearances from celebrity pals.

Following a Chatter.com commercial that showed animated versions of the Peas showing off their social-media skills, the group kicked things off with their 2009 smash "I Gotta Feeling," descending from the ceiling on illuminated platforms onto a stage surrounded by a cluster of dancers clad in white bodysuits. The foursome led the team of fist-pumping troops in "Tron"-like getups, with Taboo sporting an outfit covered in flashing lights, will.i.am rocking a shiny hairpiece, Apl.de.ap wearing huge bright studs and Fergie vamping it up in bling-laden shoulder pads.
When the speaker-busting bass of "Boom Boom Pow" dropped, the dancers dispersed across the field to create arrow-shaped formations as the glow-in-the-dark lights on their suits illuminated the stadium. Then rumored surprise guest Slash of Guns N' Roses rose from below the stage for a "Sweet Child O' Mine" duet with Fergie. The GNR great rocked a finger-searing solo in a studded version of his signature black top hat as more angular platforms and dancers moved across the gridiron. The platforms were bearing scores of marching-band musicians who blasted their horns and pounded away on their drums as the Peas went into "Pump It" and blue lights splashed across the production.
Quick streams of fog heralded the arrival of the Peas' second surprise guest, Usher, who swooped in on a long chain to bust out his will.i.am-assisted joint "OMG." Rocking a sparkly collar on an otherwise all-white ensemble, the R&B hitmaker cranked out several counts of energetic choreography, enlivening moves from his "OMG" video and at one point jumping over Will and landing in a split.
A spray of pyro ushered in the collective's breakout 2003 hit "Where Is the Love?" as the oddly shaped platforms spelled out the word "Love" in bright-red letters. The team of dancers, which appeared to have multiplied to over 100, formed hearts across the field as will updated the lyrics of the smash with lines like, "Obama, let's get these educated."
Then the group jumped ahead to their most recent single, 2010's "The Time (Dirty Bit)," as several back up hoofers rocking cubed helmets joined the Peas onstage and dancers lined up along the gridiron to simultaneously bust out the Running Man, a move which drew cheers from the crowd.
The platinum-selling Peas wrapped up the performance with a reprise of "I Gotta Feeling," as the quartet triumphantly signed off amid of blitz of fog, firepower and flashing lights.
Ripping the halftime show was clearly a touching moment for will, who tweeted beforehand, "Me and apl started the peas when we were 16 yesterday we were dreamin now were livin it. Wow. I'm not crying out of sadness or nervousness its joy and pride and memories and the journey."
And once the crew left the stage, the frontman was not only proud, but pumped. "That was so freakin sick," he wrote. "Wow...!!!"
